Siddhesvara Temple

The Siddhesvara Temple stands inside the old citadel of Anumakonda, beside the Padmakshi hill. Gopalakrishna Murthy dates its linga pedestal to the time of Beta II on grounds of style.

In worship. The sources record no dated inscription of the temple.
A white compound wall with a stone gateway at the top of a flight of steps. Through the gateway a small shrine with a stepped pyramidal tower, painted yellow, is visible. A board above the wall names the temple in Telugu.

Inside a temple hall, heavy dark stone pillars stand on square bases. Their shafts are carved in stacked, rounded and square layers. The room has a tiled floor, a painted green wall, tube lights and a chandelier. Festival images dressed in orange stand on a silver-covered stand at the right.

  • K. Lakshmi Ranjanam (1960) describes the poem on Ekasila as cut on a hill near the Siddhesvara temple. Manavalli Ramakrishna Kavi, who published the poem in 1924, suggested that a Saiva teacher of a matha on the Siddhesvara hill began it.   • The poem places the goddess Padmakshi on a hillock to the west of Siddhesvara and the goddess Bhadresvari to the east. It also places a lake to the south of the hill.
