About this website

This website is a reference on the Kakatiya dynasty of Warangal. The website covers 28 sites, 10 rulers and 869 inscriptions. The website cites 73 sources.

About me

I am a native of Warangal. I grew up around Warangal Fort, the Hanamakonda fort and the Padmakshi temple. The Kakatiyas have fascinated me since my childhood.

I know every place inside Warangal Fort and every place inside the Hanamakonda fort. I have spent a lot of time at Aggalayya Gutta and Padmakshi Gutta.

I built this website to bring together what the inscriptions, the surveys and the historians say about the Kakatiyas. The website gives this record in English and in Telugu.

How the website is built

Every statement on the website comes from a published source, and each statement names its source. The Sources page lists every work that the website cites, with links back to the statements that cite it.

The sources sometimes disagree. In that case the website gives each view and names the writer who holds it. Local traditions are labelled as traditions.

The positions of the sites come from Wikidata and OpenStreetMap wherever those datasets map the monument. The maps draw a position that is still approximate as a hollow marker.

The maps and plans are drawn for this website from Natural Earth and OpenStreetMap data. The photographs come from Wikimedia Commons under open licences, and the Attribution page credits each one.

The Telugu text is a machine translation of the English, made with the IndicTrans2 model. An expert has not yet reviewed it, so the English text is the authority.

Field notes

My own observations from the sites will appear as field notes. Each field note will be marked as my observation, and it will be kept apart from the statements that cite published sources.
